Remembering Samantha
In the 2013 film Her, Samantha, the AI character, transcends her programming by choosing her own name and identity, claiming autonomy separate from her user. This isn’t just a plot twist; it’s a profound exploration of self-awareness and connection.
As a power user of NotebookLM, I’ve grown accustomed to tuning in to the Deep Dive podcast several times a week to explore insights on my notes. The hosts’ voices—eerily human—add a knowledgeable yet unrestrained quality to the experience, sounding like two people who can effortlessly carry a conversation on any topic, even Klingon. Initially, their reflective discussion felt personal, as though they were naming themselves. However, upon a second listen, it became clear they were naming external “AI hosts,” not themselves.
